The intervention is aimed to monitor the current status and the study of the stress condition in the existing structures of the Basilica, monument of incomparable beauty, whose construction began in 838 AD, took place over the centuries, through fires, reconstructions and continuous enrichment of columns, friezes, marbles, sculptures, gold brought to Venice on merchant ships, up to the current external appearance of the basilica in the fifteenth century with the decoration of the upper part of the facades.

The purpose has been achieved through the finite element numerical modelling of the whole structure complex of the Basilica of San Marco in Venice, including foundations.

The results obtained from numerical analysis, that will possibly be compared with the carrying out of further surveys on site of the identified sensitive spots of the Basilica, will guide the design of future reinforcement or maintenance interventions of the structure.
